About Sandra Day
A Little Bit About The Artist, Sandra Day
Sandra Day was born in Portland, Maine and spent her early years on the shores of Sebago and Rangeley Lakes. As a child, Sandra spent countless hours in, on and around two of Maine’s most beautiful lakes and that experience radiates from her waterscapes. Sandra’s deep appreciation for nature’s beauty and a love of the water are fundamental elements to many of her paintings.
As a young girl, Sandra worked at Allen’s Farm and Garden Center in Cumberland, Maine, a business started and run for decades by her iconic grandparents, Robert and Kay Allen. It was here, among the countless plants and flowers, that Sandra developed her appreciation for the beauty and intricacy of mother nature’s floral palate.
Sandra also took motivation from the art of her great grandfather Arthur T. Coffin whose paintings and photographs focused on the beauty and grace of nature’s critters in their natural Maine surroundings. Sandra grew up appreciating the skill in those paintings on the wall of her childhood home and now some of them are still proudly displayed on her own walls.
After graduating from Oxford Hills High School, in South Paris Maine, Sandra spent time in Oklahoma and California before settling back in Maine. Sandra spent the next 25 years raising her two children Amy and Dylan and she continues to help with her four beautiful grandchildren. As a busy mom, Sandra studied art and her own spirituality in her free moments. Sandra’s study of art and spirituality intensified when she became “empty nested.”
Sandra developed a passion for symbolism as an adult. Her independent study of scripture and literature revealed that life was full of hidden meanings that were often just below the surface. All you needed to do was look for them. This thirst for learning and the desire to understand the “meaning behind the art” come alive in Sandra’s own works. After decades of self- study and lessons, and after years of encouragement from friends and family (and a nudge from the good Lord), Sandra began painting professionally in 2015.
Sandra paints from her in-home studio in New Gloucester, Maine where she and her husband of 35 years have lived for more than two decades. Sandra hopes that each individual finds spiritual value in her paintings and photographs.
